MARU
QUIÑONERO

Maru Quiñonero is the second of four sibilings, a fun fact that justifies and defines her stoic, easy-going and mediator personality. Features that will be reflected in her work and in her creative process. Graduated in Art History from the University of Murcia in 2001. After a MA in Marketing and Fashion she gets a job at Condé Nast, the luxury publishing giant. But it will be around 2010 when she begins to approach the world of art and build her own creative universe. This will be a decisive year for her due to two personal events: the overcoming of a depression and her arrival in Madrid. In this city and for this city and for the next eleven years.
ARTWORKS
Maru Quiñonero's sensitivity flirts with collage and explores figurative illustration until she finds its greatest expressive exponent in abstraction. Since 2017 she has studied colour as the main element of her work. She also investigates the use of it in both classical and contemporary artists. She researches both the use that society gives to colour in pop culture and the emotional charge that lives beyond the material sense. As a self-taught artist, Maru runs away from limits when choosing techniques, materials and supports. And in a display of her stoic attitude, she makes virtue out of necessity. Making her lack of academic training in Fine Arts an advantage. Without theoretical prejudices or acquired vices, she feels free and turns her mistake into a chance of her own creation
